Body, Soul, and Spirit: The Three-Part Man

Ask most people what they are made of and they will say body and soul, two parts, a shell and a self. But when Paul blesses the Thessalonians he names three, praying that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless, and the whole of Scripture backs him. Ask most people what they are made of and they will say body and soul, two parts, a shell and a self. But when Paul blesses the Thessalonians he names three, praying that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless, and the whole of Scripture backs him. Man is a threefold being, made of the dust of the earth, quickened by the breath of Yahuah, and living as a soul where the two meet. This lesson walks slowly through that making. We will stand over the dust of Eden and watch a living soul come to be, learn the Hebrew words nephesh and ruach and basar and their Greek partners psuche and pneuma and soma, and follow the Word of Yahuah as it divides soul from spirit like a two-edged sword. We will trace the body down into the dust and the spirit back to the God who gave it, hear the two births and the war between flesh and spirit, and see the tabernacle standing as a picture of the three-court temple you are. And we will end at the resurrection, where the whole man is raised and preserved complete. Bring your Bible, and read every verse for yourself.
